Legacy workshops During 2016, the Foundation worked on a number of projects, including a legacy workshop in June. The workshop was led by Pastor Ivy Huston and featured presentations by Sandberg Mortuary, Thrivent Financial and the Foundation. Workshops will continue to be held with the next one scheduled for fall 2017. Polar Back Packs 2016 The Polar Back Pack program was the recipient of several grants from the Foundation – at Easter and at Thanksgiving. The Foundation's grant gave money towards food gift cards for the people receiving the back packs. A heartfelt thank you was given to Lindsey Bina, Intern Pastor, who delivered the gift cards. She was welcomed at North High and offered sincere thanks for the partnership between St. Mark's and the school. She was told “the Polar Packs are making a huge difference in the lives of their students.” Everyone she met at school offered similar words of gratitude. The grants are available thanks to the generosity of those who contribute to the Foundation. We thank everyone who has helped us provide help to this much-needed program. Support for seminary student The Foundation continued its support of seminary students in 2017 with a grant for a daughter of our congregation – Jenn Luong.
Jenn's response, “Your financial support is critical, but your investment and support of my ministry is priceless.” The Foundation feels it is important to support the future of the church by investing in the young people who are striving to keep the faith growing. Fellowship Hall was humming with music and conversation on Sunday, September 18, for the Friends of the Foundation Kickoff Luncheon. More than 40 people filled the room as guests, board of trustee members, speakers and food servers enjoyed a delicious meal, a fun church trivia game, information about foundations, and fellowship. The Friends of the Foundation is an informal group that will help and support the Foundation's board of trustees in visioning for the future; share ideas for growth; enjoy fellowship with others who wish to see St. Mark's Church continue to succeed and thrive; and spread the word about the Foundation and its mission. Polar Back Pack Program The Foundation has continued its policy of giving grant money for the Polar Back Pack program. In November 2015, the Foundation gave $675 for food gift cards so the recipients of the back packs would be able to purchase fresh produce and meat for Thanksgiving. For Easter, the Foundation gave $500 for the back pack program to purchase food gift cards. These donations help the families in the program enjoy a Thanksgiving and Easter meal together. St. Mark's Foundation Elects Officers
The St. Mark's Foundation Board of Trustees recently held its annual election of officers. Serving on the Executive Committee for the coming year will be: Bill Pickett, president; Paul Ellefson, vice president; Jim Allen, treasurer; and Barb Michel, secretary. The officers and all trustees welcome any questions about the Foundation, its mission and how you can participate. Please go to the “contact” link and let us know your concerns or questions. February 2015 The St. Mark's Foundation Board of Trustees approved a grant to the Polar Back Pack program of $480 for gift cards to supply the packs with grocery cards for fresh meat and produce during the Easter season. The Foundation takes the gifts it receives, invests that money and only uses the interest earned to help strengthen the ability of St. Mark's Church to pursue its mission. The Board feels the Polar Back Pack program shows the awesome stewardship and outreach of St. Mark's Church. Do you use Amazon.com for your online shopping? In honor of the Rev. Dr. Steven Nelson's retirement from the ministry and as senior pastor at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, the St. Mark's Foundation gave Luther Seminary (St. Paul, MN) a gift of $500 for its internship program. Pastor Nelson was dedicated to a strong seminarian intern program at St. Mark's Church. This long-reaching program has helped seminarians grow to become dynamic worship and education leaders. In addition, the program has expanded worship and educational opportunities for congregation members. The Foundation thanks Pastor Steve for his exemplary dedication to the intern program. |
